Basic Cake

  • Ingredients
  1. 300 gm sugar -powdered preferably
  2. 250 gm flour
  3. 50 gm cocoa powder
  4. 1.5 tsp baking powder
  5. 1 pinch salt
  6. 250 gm unsalted butter
  7. 4 eggs
  8. 0.5 cup milk
  9. 1.5 tsp vanilla essence

  • Procedure
  1. Preheat the oven at 140-160°C
  2. Mix the butter and sugar to a creamy consistency.
  3. Beat the egg whites till peaks are obtained.
  4. Add the yolks to the butter and sugar mix
  5. Fold in the whites into this mixture.
  6. Combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt.
  7. Sift this mixture into the wet batter.
  8. Add vanilla essence to the milk and pour this into the batter.
  9.  Grease the mould and dust with flour
  10. Pour in the batter and bake for 30-35 minutes at 160-180°C.
  11. Poke with a long toothpick to check if cooked (there should be no gooeyness when you pull it out. If it is, then bake for a few more minutes.)

Note: If you do not want to make a chocolate cake then just add the corresponding quantity of flour instead of the cocoa powder.
